Infra Red Photography

Infra Red Photography is a technique which i have only recently started to use. This technique is quite uncommon due to it being impractical in most situations and very time consuming compared to most other techniques, this is mainly down to long shutter speeds with an IR lens filter and complicated post-processing. Despite this, I find the technique to be very rewarding and with patience some quite striking photographs can be created.

I prefer to shoot architecture with this technique, which is partly because of the long shutter speeds. Churches always seem to come out particularly well because of their ornate architecture and the fact that they are usually surrounded by vegetation, greenery always turns white on infra red photographs making scenes seem other worldly. This combined with the unusual looking clouds (caused by the long shutter speeds) make for very interesting photographs.
Infra Red photographs tend to appear quite tranquil and calm, this also fits in with shooting churches quite well.
